Happy Fri-yay everyone 😉 I don’t know about you but I am looking so forward to this weekend – yet I always am so whats new lol! Today I am sharing a super important factor of my life, my everyday/post workout smoothie. Now that may seem a bit extreme lol but I seriously love my smoothie and besides my workouts its the second constant thing in my daily routine.
First and foremost I would like to say these products are only what I use and you can use whatever works for you. I want to share that I take mine post workout and include whey protein, greens, & superfoods. I like to get an all encompassed drink that gives me great benefits and keeps me full for longer.
The meca of products!
I start with about 16oz of unsweetened Almond Milk. I am a big advocate for no added sugar hence the unsweetened version. You can use water, hemp milk, rice milk or any other alternative. I stay away from cow’s milk indefinitely (unless its ice cream lol 😉 because of the hormones – check out the Food INC documentary if you want to become a “vegan” milk drinker for life.
Next comes my superfood! Funny story here, I used to hate both cacao and maca because at the time they tasted too chalky for me. Fast forward 2 years later and now I LOVE both, like a crazy amount of love. Raw cacao adds an even more chocolatey flavor for me without all the sweetness, while maca adds the malt flavor of a milkshake. I use a 1/2 tablespoon amount for each.
I choose to use cacao over cocoa because cocoa is usually very highly processed with minimal nutritional impact while cacao is a natural antioxidant, regulates blood sugar, and helps brain function. Maca has several healthy benefits too such as being high in vitamins & minerals, balances hormones, helps with energy levels and also keeps skin clear. I use it mainly to combat fatigue and since incorporating into my smoothies I can honestly say I’ve seen a difference. However I do only use maca every other day because it can lessen the good effects if taken every day.
Up next I add my greens! I’ve used Boku greens for about the last 2 1/2 years. A couple of friends made us this amazing blueberry smoothie with it (will do a post on this too!) I loved the taste so much and this is what makes it. I like getting greens in my drink especially because I don’t always get a chance during my day so this is an awesome way to fit it in. For this I use the scoop that comes with the greens, and its a HEAPING scoop 🙂
This next part may not be for everyone. That black powder on top is AMAZING! It tastes like chocolate and is a natural energy boost. It is actually Black Ant Powder! I know ants.. but for real its so good! I use 2 1/2 teaspoon scoops of it. Black Ant extract has a long list of healthy benefits too. Mainly its a direct source of ATP (our main energy source), helps aid the digestive system, and is PACKED with vitamins and minerals. The last and best ingredient is my protein powder which is by Formulx. This is the base behind my whole drink because after a workout I need something to rebuild my muscles and aid in recovery. I use 1 full serving (a scoop and half) of the chocolate flavor. I choose Formulx because its a high quality grass fed whey that not only tastes AMAZINGGG but is actually good for you too! But more on that to come in another post.. 😉
Shake all that goodness up! I like to pour mine into another cup because most of the natural sugar from my protein will sit at the bottom of the shaker bottle and I can keep it out of my drink that way – just personal preference 🙂
